The Top 10 Essentials Every Dog Mom Will Love

The Dogtrovert’s Top 10 Essentials Every Dog Mom Should Carry

As a dog mom who likes to take her pup with me whenever I can, I have gotten used to carrying Teddy’s stuff with me in my bag over the years. I like to be as prepared and comfortable as possible and we have found ourselves unprepared quite a few times. Keep reading to see the essentials I’ve found over the years that help me feel prepared no matter where Teddy and I go.

A Good Backpack Purse

I love backpack purses as my daily purse and they have come in quite handy over the years whether I am heading to work, going to the park with Teddy or if we are on vacation. As someone who does not like to carry a big purse full of a lot of stuff, I have found I prefer smaller bags. This backpack purse by Rebecca Minkoff is my favorite. The bag is called the Convertible Mini Julian backpack and a similar one can be found here. I have the mini size, which fits quite a bit believe it or not, but it also comes in a larger size.

I can fit my wallet, phone, keys, a pouch of essentials, Teddy’s water cup, baby wipes, and extra potty bags in this! It’s all about how you organize your things inside.

This bag can also be worn as a shoulder bag and fanny pack.

I would recommend purchasing this bag during one of Rebecca Minkoff’s bi-annual sales. You can find it for $99 if you wait. The colors available change depending on the season. Right now, I am eyeing this adorable fringe backpack.

A Tote Bag- Preferably One With Teddy’s Portrait

When I need to carry a little more with me, I reach for my Pop Your Pup tote bag. I love this bag! Pop Your Pup creates fun pop art inspired apparel, bags, accessories, and more. This is my go to bag for days we might be out a little longer, when we travel, or for day trips. Bonus points for being fun!

Water Bottle Full of Fresh Water

We never leave home without a fresh bottle of water. We love this Nalgene bottle from REI, but we have a similar one that we purchased at Target. Typically, we bring this plus a little travel cup that Teddy loves to drink out of. We get his cups from local events where Cane’s is giving out samples of water and tea. They are the perfect size and one of Teddy’s interesting quirks is that he loves to drink out of cups. With the water bottle, I’m able to have water for myself and pour Teddy’s in his cup.

We also have a more traditional fold up pet water bottle. I keep this one in our car for emergencies. This specific one is from Home Goods. It is okay, but not Teddy’s favorite.

Cleaning Supplies

I always try to have cleaning supplies either in my purse or car. One essential is a small towel. Another is a travel pack of baby wipes Sometimes the park is a little more muddy or wet than we anticipated, so this allows me to clean Teddy’s paws before he gets in the car. Of course, a dog mom is always prepared with extra sets of potty bags.

Sunglasses

We love to go on walks and enjoy the sunshine! Some days, I think Teddy would walk all day long if I’d let him. In Louisiana, we get quite a bit of nice, sunny days, so a pair of sunglasses is an essential for our outings. I love this pair from local boutique, Krafty Kravingz. I also love sunglasses by Quay.

Comfortable Shoes

Comfortable shoes are a must when going anywhere with your dog. Teddy likes to walk fast and I have to keep up! He also likes to walk through dirt, grass, on the sidewalks, so you will usually find me wearing sneakers when we are together. My favorite shoes are the Nike Cortez sneakers. I can pair them with leggings, jeans, and dresses and still feel cute!

A Car Seat

Since Teddy loves to go on car rides, we decided that he needed a car seat! My parents got this one off Amazon for my birthday last year. He loves to sit in it and look out the window as we ride around town. It is really easy to install and is the perfect height to look out the window and people watch!

A Cute Pouch to Hold Treats + A Cooling Bandana

I try to keep a few little treats on me when we go out, so I just throw a few in this little pouch. I got this a few years ago at a Pet Boutique in East Nashville.

Living in Louisiana, a cooling bandana is a must. I keep this in my purse year round (yes, even during the winter months), just in case Teddy gets too hot. It is perfect because it slips through his collar and I can get it wet to cool him down. We mostly use this during the summer months, but here in the south, you just never know what the temperature is going to be day to day. I got this cooling bandana about 5 years ago from Koabear Bandanas and you can find them on Instagram here.
